Tortoreto - Abruzzo
Tortoreto the city of Abruzzo which has an ancient part, located on the hill, Tortoreto Alta and a part developed more recently on the seafront of the Abruzzo coast: Tortoreto Lido.
Tortoreto Alta overlooks the 227 m high sea, a medieval village that joins its hamlet in a harmonious hilly landscape, formed by a luxuriant Mediterranean scrub: vineyards and olive groves as far as the eye can see and in the distance the remains of an ancient Roman villa (2nd century BC).
During the summer season there are a number of cultural events suitable for every need, such as the famous historical reenactment "Il Palio del Barone".
Tortoreto Lido is the most modern and young part of the city; located right on the seafront, the area is full of palm trees, well-equipped beaches with bathing establishments suitable for any type of holiday.
The summer evenings at Tortoreto Lido pass among the many restaurants and bars located a few steps from the fine sandy beach, and there are plenty of bars, clubs and discos for those who want more fun evenings.
In summer there are numerous eno-gastronomic events organized by the city, for lovers of good fish do not miss the Festival of typical products (July), the Vongola Festival and the Grande Abbuffata di Pesce (August).
In the vicinity of Tortoreto it is possible to entertain young and old with the numerous water games, slides and animation of the AquaPark Onda Blu.
Museum of marine culture
The museum, inaugurated in 1998, houses an interesting collection of shells from the Mediterranean and other seas. To admire collections of malacology, fish, embalmed turtles, fossils, corals, boat models.
Also exhibited are traditional fishing equipment, including various types of nets, floats, anchors, pots, nodes, compasses, marine clothing and boat equipment.
